Higbee Inc. enjoys a reputation of excellence in the gasket and sealing products industry and is ISO 9001:2008 registered. Higbee Inc was founded in 1932 by Lyman Higbee and continued to be successful under the leadership of his son Larry Higbee. Higbee’s goal has been, and will continue to be, putting customers first and delivering world-class, cost competitive products on time.

After 40 years, Larry Higbee has decided to move on to the next chapter in his life. That being said, the continuing success of the business his father started is very important to him. When he started seriously considering selling Higbee Inc. he developed the profile of a “preferred” acquirer. This organization would have experience in the gasket business, a commitment to quality and customer service, a product portfolio that complimented Higbee’s product portfolio, and the financial strength to invest in equipment and technology to grow the business.

Larry and the Higbee management team believe that Seal & Design Inc. fits this profile perfectly.

Seal & Design President Dean S. Penman is also excited to welcome Higbee to the Seal & Design brand: “We think this move is a great opportunity for both parties and will strengthen our position with our clients as we will be able to offer more products to our existing customer bases,” he said.

Effective August 31, 2015 Seal & Design Inc. will acquire Higbee Inc. Higbee’s name will change from Higbee Inc. to Seal & Design Inc, Higbee Division.

Day to day, Higbee Division will continue to operate as normal and provide the same excellent service they always have. The synergy between the two companies will strengthen Seal & Design’s position in the national and global markets.

This is the second acquisition by Seal & Design. We first acquired Canadian competitor Able O-Rings in 2006 and have helped them become a market leader in Ontario. Today Seal & Design Inc, Able Division is thriving. Just as we have developed and cared for Able Division’s business and infrastructure, we plan to invest in Higbee Division to make them even more successful by always putting our customers’ needs first.

Expansion Project Underway

Seal & Design broke ground on July 22, 2014 on a $3million expansion project. The field in the photo will soon be a 40k sq. foot addition to the current 52k sq. foot building. Construction is expected to finish in January 2015.

“We need to make more products, and are buying more equipment,” said President Dean Penman, who added the demand is selling new products and more to existing customers.

He added that automotive, medical and OEM equipment markets each comprise about 30 percent of the company’s sales. He said the company has grown about 40 percent over the last five years, and that 2014 revenues should be about $38 million.

We’ll be documenting construction progress periodically throughout so check our blog and website often for updates!

Able’s ISO 9001 Audit

Able Seal & Design recently had an ISO 9001 audit performed by independent ISO 9001 certification organization, NSF. The ISO 9001 certification is a standard industrial certification given to manufacturing companies that have rigorous quality measures, good customer relationship practices, and strive for continuous improvement in all areas of business.

We’re pleased to announce Able passed the audit with zero non-conformances!  Reportedly, the auditor was impressed with the new facility, commended our customer service scores, and was pleased that we were meeting our goals on the vast majority of our key process measures.

Congratulations to all our employees. Let’s keep up the great work!
