Explosive Decompression

Explosive Decompression(ED) or Rapid Gas Decompression(RGD) is a structural failure, a condition that occurs due to gas permeation or dissolution into the seal material. When system pressure decays quickly, the entrapped gas expands, rupturing the o-ring.

Explosive decompression may cause blistering, internal cracking and splitting of parts. Seal & Design has compounds available in EPDM, HNBR, Viton, Aflas, and Chemraz to minimize the effect of explosive decompression.  Please contact our sales staff for a proper elastomer recommendation.

Genuine Viton®

Today’s industry sometimes operates under extreme conditions. Heat, aggressive media, corrosive gasses and mechanical stress require the utmost performance from your seals. Extreme requirements demand quality assurance and the best materials, in those cases Genuine Viton®, the fluoroelastomer made by DuPont Performance Elastomers is the solution. If safety and quality assurance are a must, Genuine Viton® is the only choice.

Genuine Viton® is manufactured with 100% pure fluoroelastomers and is certified with the Viton® certificate, which is granted by DuPont Performance Elastomers. Genuine Viton® products include: O-Rings, Vulc-O-rings, O-Ring cord, Rubber molded products,Sealants, and sheeting products.

Ultimate Levels of Sealing with Chemraz

chemraz oring materialThe ultimate level of elastomeric sealing is exhibited by Chemraz perfluoroelastomer parts, which provide extended seal life, sealing force retention and thermal resistance up to 324°C, in the most aggressive chemical, hydrocarbon and petroleum process environments.

Chemraz parts offer exceptional resistance to sour oil and gas, acid and steam, and to inhibitor and process chemicals. They are available as tubing-to-packer seals, custom logging boots, standard O-rings, valve seats, diaphragms, gaskets, T-seals, column fittings, and also in virtually any custom shape.

DuPont™ Viton® Fluoroelastomer

Viton O-Rings

Viton® fluoroelastomer is the most specified fluoroelastomer, well known for its excellent (400°F/200°C) heat resistance. Viton® offers excellent resistance to aggressive fuels and chemicals and has worldwide ISO 9000 and ISO/TS 16949 registration.

There are differences between types of Viton® in terms of chemical resistance and mechanical properties. Whether your application is automotive, chemical processing or any number of other industrial applications, there is a particular type of Viton® that best meets your specific performance requirements.

The general purpose types differ primarily from the specialty types in chemical resistance. In the specialty family, the choice is among four types that are tailored for superior fluid resistance, low-temperature performance or combinations of these properties. In order to ensure product integrity and compliance to OSHA 1910.119 in finished parts made of Viton®, our seal helps guarantee that the parts you receive are made from 100% virgin Viton® from DuPont.

Chemraz high performance elastomer

Chemraz combines the resilience and sealing force of an elastomer with chemical resistance approaching that of PTFE. Chemraz solves some of the most difficult sealing problems in natural gas power generators and truck diesel engines while offering outstanding in-use cost effectiveness through reductions in warranty claims and down time.

Chemraz resists attack by nearly all chemical reagents, including inorganic and organic acids, alkaline, ketones, esters, aldehyde, alcohols and fuels. As a result, Chemraz, engineered by Greene Tweed, provides long-term service in virtually all applications where vehicle-operating temperatures are elevated and reduced emission requirements are paramount.

High performance Viton® O-rings

Seal & Design is a leading supplier of Viton® O-rings and custom molded seals. We offer both genuine Viton® and standard fluorocarbon materials for general purpose and high performance applications. Selecting the type of Viton® that best fits your application is important, but it isn’t complicated, and help is available from Seal & Design.  We also offer gaskets out of Viton®

We’ve created a list of compounds available on our website with spec sheets for each material. Please contact Seal & Design for technical help in your selection of Viton®, or any other seal material.
